关大铭接到徐春磊的电话，医院库房发生一件离奇失窃案，从省城刚刚购进的一盒价值不菲的S药品被盗，他立即带罗三拐和贾小蝈赶去。圣路易医院是一所教会医院，也是临江市唯一的正规西医院，关大铭到来时，军代表徐春磊正在拍桌子训斥院长瞿宗平，骂他是帝国主义代言人，瞿敢怒不敢言。经了解，这盒药今天上午11点以前还放在柜架上，11点钟后勤人员送来新锁，库房保管员大刘用新锁锁上门，外出去了厕所一趟，大约十分钟，回来后就发现药品不在了。仔细勘查现埸，库房门窗坚固完好，小偷根本无法进入。关大铭注意到换新锁这个细节，经询问是徐春磊批准让后勤科长张厚林买了一批新锁回来，分发下去的。调查证实换新锁的过程毫无漏洞，新锁的钥匙在大刘身上，别人绝无可能另配钥匙。贾小蝈认定是大刘监守自盗，大刘倍感委屈，竟服安眠药自杀，幸好被罗三拐所救。库房是间密不透风的密室，唯有窗角玻璃破了个拳头大的小洞，大刘说是前几天被一个精神病人乱扔石头砸的，因为不影响安全，暂时没换。关大铭注意到小洞的玻璃尖角挂了一小撮黑色的猫毛，徐春磊说是张厚林养的猫，平时就爱到处乱窜，关大铭心里仿佛有某种猜测，但又不能明晰。贾小蝈自告奋勇去查那个可疑的精神病人，结果弄巧成拙，差点被掐死。
