许暴牙和谭巧芸逃到城内的普慈寺暂且藏匿起来，哀叹功亏一篑，幸亏“灯影儿”报信及时才侥幸逃脱。他们知道公安此时定会在四处张网布控，不敢上路，只能先避几天风头再依靠“灯影儿”逃出去。破获许暴牙团伙，社会反应热烈，郑福元、工商界代表和储户群众代表送来锦旗，同时希望尽快追回金条，挽回经济损失。贾小蝈因为卧底有功，受到表彰，自我感觉成了英雄人物，在医院里对两个小护士吹嘘炫耀，搞得人家一脸的崇拜。小萌嘲笑他被许暴牙利用，传出的全是假情报，贾小蝈十分尴尬，赌气去找关大铭评理。袁润察觉到公安局里有内奸，决定暗中调查。关大铭接到匿名举报，罗三拐被许暴牙用金条收买了，他半信半疑，派贾小蝈暗中摸摸情况。谁知贾小蝈弄巧成拙，反被罗三拐揭发是内奸。沈仕杰受关大铭委托监视钱庄老板郑福元，并未发现异常。谭巧芸乔装从约定的地点取回“灯影儿”送来的军装，许暴牙穿上后装成公安来到江边，物色了老实憨厚的打鱼人蔡老七，出示了证件（罗三拐的证件），说要执行机密任务，重金雇他的船去清江，要他随时待命。谁知蔡老七认识罗三拐，表面满口应承，转身就悄悄来找罗三拐告密。 罗三拐大惊，这才发现自己的证件被人偷了。关大铭深知事关重大，忙找袁润，再次证实局里确有内奸。袁润决定此次行动对全局所有人保密，请驻军调部队支持。一个班的战士装成船工、小贩等，秘密控制了江边和蔡老七的船，守株待兔。许暴牙要谭巧芸带着金条到下游普慈寺江边等候，自己来接船，结果发现中了埋伏。他利用江边障碍物开枪顽抗，最后被击毙，临死之前，他从挎包里拿出一只鸽子放飞。关大铭等人没反应过来，等举枪射击，鸽子已经飞远。
