无处可去留在尤家的玉香婶沉默寡言任劳任怨，得到了大家的好感，曾管家对她产生了感情。直到有一天，他发现玉香婶竟想用凝心草毒害尤贤白，才知道原来两人曾经有过那样一段不堪回首的情仇往事。在曾管家的再三劝说下，玉香婶终于放弃了报仇的念头。两人约定，等一段时间一起离开尤家大院，找个地方结婚成家，安度余生。临江解放了，新时代到来了，四姨太看到了人生的希望，闹着要跟尤贤白离婚，月桂才偶然发现长像酷似自己年轻时候的四姨太，竟然是哥哥周月明的亲生女儿，也就是她失散多年的亲侄女儿！玉香婶再也控制不住悲愤，冲进尤贤白的寝房，要尤贤白立刻与江婉玲离婚。尤贤白明白了真相，非常震惊，一下子病倒了。思来想去，尤贤白叫来曾管家，决定和三位姨太太都离婚，明媒正娶玉香婶，赎回自己的罪孽。曾管家已经深深爱着玉香婶，绝不愿意玉香婶再嫁给尤贤白，而且尤贤白一旦宣布决定必然引起所有人猜疑，四姨太的秘密就肯定保不住了。为了保护江婉玲，也为了玉香婶，他用凝心草毒死了尤贤白。后来当他三姨太发现旧照片，怀疑到四姨太的真实身份并进行敲诈时，他又装鬼吓死了三姨太。曾管家的交代终于揭开了尤家命案的秘密，但凶手真的是曾管家吗？关大铭和罗三拐很有怀疑，他很可能是自愿为玉香婶顶罪。要不要继续追查玉香婶，二人产生了分歧，罗三拐同情玉香婶，想就此结束马虎过去，关大铭虽然也很难过，但要坚持原则。此时的玉香婶久等曾管家不回，已经猜到曾管家顶了罪，她不愿意苟活，留下遗书，准备自尽。她才是谋害尤贤白和三姨太的真凶，当尤贤白病倒床榻闭门不出痛苦忏悔时，她以为他还在拖赖与江婉玲的离婚，遂怒不可遏地下了毒；当尤贤白在餐桌上宣布了离婚决定，她已经来不及挽回了。
