Kapitän Holger Ehlers hat sich an Bord der „Albatros II“ in seine Kajüte zurückgezogen und scheint über etwas zu grübeln. Seine Kollegin und engste Vertraute an Bord, Wachhabende Saskia Berg, spürt, dass ihn etwas bedrückt. Doch Ehlers gibt vor, lediglich eine Abschiedsrede für einen Kollegen schreiben zu müssen. Allerdings fällt auch dem restlichen Team auf der Brücke auf, dass ihr Kapitän verändert ist. Zu Spekulationen bleibt jedoch keine Zeit, denn der Funkruf eines Ausflugsboots meldet einen merkwürdigen Vorfall: Angeblich habe ein Tourist beobachtet, wie von einem Kutter aus ein Mann ertränkt werden soll. Die „Albatros II“ steuert die Stelle an, doch von einem Kutter ist weit und breit nichts zu sehen und auch die GPS-Auswertung gibt keinen Hinweis auf ein entsprechendes Boot. Zurück in Neustadt wird Ehlers schon dringend erwartet. Polizeirat Gruber und Staatssekretärin Susanne Sondheim drängen ihn zu einer Entscheidung, die Ehlers’ komplette Zukunftsplanung über den Haufen werfen würde. Denn als verdienter, langjähriger Kapitän der Küstenwache ist er Wunschkandidat des Ministeriums für eine leitende Position im Rahmen eines UN-Mandats. Ziel ist, eine funktionierende und eigenständige Küstenwache vor der Küste Somalias aufzubauen. Ausgerechnet Somalia! Wolfgang Unterbaur, Ex-Maschinist der „Albatros“ und Weltumsegler ist skeptisch, ob Ehlers dieses Risiko eingehen soll. Kalle Schneidewind sieht die Sache etwas anders, denn er weiß, wie sehr Ehlers eine solche Aufgabe reizt. Und was sagt Henrike? Ehlers Lebensgefährtin ist wenig begeistert von der Idee, zumal die Aufgabe alles andere als ungefährlich sein würde. Einen ersten Geschmack davon bekommt Ehlers, als er am Hafen von einem wildfremden Mann angesprochen wird. Dieser drückt ihm einen USB-Stick in die Hand. Als Ehlers gemeinsam mit Ben Asmus die Datei auf dem Stick ausliest, erstarren beide für einen Moment. Auf einem Video ist ein Mann zu sehen, der auf offener See in einen Käfig gesperrt ist und fast ertränkt wird. Offenbar war demnach die Meldung des Touristen durchaus korrekt. Fieberhaft versucht die Crew nun herauszufinden, wie sich der Kutter verstecken konnte und wer hinter der Aktion steckt. Aber zugleich stellt sich die Frage, warum Ehlers dieses Video zugespielt wurde. Der Kapitän weiß natürlich sehr genau warum. Irgendjemand will ihn warnen und davon abhalten, die Berufung nach Afrika anzunehmen. Zur gleichen Zeit ist das Team in heller Aufregung, denn von Norge haben alle erfahren, dass Ehlers wohl eine neue Aufgabe übernehmen und das Kommando für die „Albatros II“ abgeben soll. Das können sie nicht so einfach zulassen, darin sind sie sich einig. Gemeinsam hecken sie einen Plan aus, wie sie ihren Kapitän zum Bleiben bewegen können. (Text: ZDF)
