Der Tauchgang in die Tiefen der Ostsee wird Philipp Omesas, Professor am Institut für Schiffbau, zum Verhängnis. Ein kleines Problem mit seinem Atemregler hat fatale Folgen. Plötzlich entweicht die Luft unkontrolliert. Omesas versucht vergeblich, das Ventil zu schließen, doch in kurzer Zeit ist seine Pressluftflasche leer. Mehr als eine Stunde später entdeckt die Küstenwache eine Notfallboje. Sofort leitet Kapitän Ehlers eine Rettungsmaßnahme ein, doch der Professor kann nur noch tot geborgen werden. Hatte er keinen Tauchpartner, der ihm hätte helfen können? Kaum vorstellbar, so weit draußen auf See. Asmus und Norge wollen bei Mattis Baumeister, dem Assistenten des Professors, Erkundigungen einholen und machen dabei im Institut für Schiffbau aufregende Entdeckungen: Das Büro des Professors ist durchsucht worden. Offenbar hatte Omesas kurz vor seinem Tod eine geheime Kamera in seinem Büro installiert, denn schon seit Längerem hatte er den Verdacht, einer seiner Studenten würde kurz vor der Prüfung in das Büro eindringen, um dort die Aufgaben einzusehen. Mithilfe der Kamera wollte er den Betrüger entlarven. Die Kamera ist noch immer an ihrem Platz – aber, wie Asmus feststellt, es fehlt der Speicherchip. Es handelt sich um drei Studenten, die Mitglieder im von Prof. Omesas gegründeten Tauchclub sind. Alle drei hätten am übernächsten Tag eine wichtige Prüfung geschrieben. War einem der Studenten klar geworden, dass er beim Betrugsversuch gefilmt worden war? War es dieser Student, der seinen Professor deshalb dem Tod in der Tiefe überlassen hat? Norge und Asmus sind wie elektrisiert: Auch in einer Kurzgeschichte ihres geliebten Sherlock-Holmes-Autors Arthur Conan Doyle geht es um drei Studenten, die im Verdacht stehen, Prüfungsaufgaben gestohlen zu haben. Je tiefer sie in den Fall einsteigen, desto mehr Parallelen zur literarischen Vorlage zeigen sich. Ihre Kollegen, allen voran Pia Cornelius, bekommen allmählich den Eindruck, dass die beiden langsam nicht mehr zwischen Realität und Fiktion unterscheiden können. (Text: ZDF)
