顾明哲敲开了何君家的门，何君的妈妈热情地将他迎进了家。何君家一片欢乐，何君生病了躺在床上睡觉，两个外甥在家里开心地玩耍。何君妈妈为顾明哲准备了茶及水果，她八卦地与顾明哲聊天，询问他的年龄。这时何君穿好衣服走了出来，以工作忙为由将顾明哲带了出来。经历了上次的生死，顾明哲非常珍惜与何君的相处，也真心地希望她能好好地对待自己，不要再这么拼命。何君对发生过的事情一无所知，只是感觉到今天的顾明哲非常反常。她让顾明哲将她送到汗蒸馆，临下车还不忘叮嘱他做好工作。时间回到1999年，宋博跟着孙午阳和甄世安来到KTV，他拿着刀冲着甄世安捅了过去。当曹征和同事赶到案发现场时，宋博正在新华路口捅着孙午阳，同时，宋博被刑警一枪击毙了。待曹征赶到时，宋博已经奄奄一息了。顾明哲在网上看到了案子的最新信息，孙午阳得到了被盗家庭的谅解无罪释放，以及宋博杀人被击毙的消息。顾明哲来到宋博墓前，他想到曹征安葬宋博场景，他明白时空来电可以改变某些事情，但有些结局是无法改变的。曹征记住宋博死前的遗言，他觉得宋芳芳的死仍有疑点，但队里已经禁止曹征参与宋芳芳一案。曹征对队里的决定十分气愤，他找到正在擦车的孙宏韬直言，孙午阳一案的判决有问题，同样的案情，宋博被判八年，而孙午阳却被判两年，缓期三年，同时也没有追究甄世安的包庇之责。他知道孙宏韬在这件案子里做过什么，他发誓一定要找到证据。何君站在楼顶喝着感冒药，顾明哲再次走过来提醒她要保护好自己，危险的事情交由他们来办，何君心里充满了疑问。顾明哲不无感慨地告诉她，上次有讲过如果有电话从过去打来会怎么样，现在他觉得两个人都错了，这个电话还是不接的好。否则结果只会变得越来越糟，他的话让何君听的云里雾里，怀疑正在生病的人应该是他。到了晚上11：23，电话再次响起，顾明哲犹豫地接起了电话，曹征迫不及待地需要顾明哲的协助，他需要查清楚宋芳芳的案子。但顾明哲心灰意冷地告诉他，他不明白为什么接通的是他们俩个，但是希望以后不要再通话了。顾明哲没有等到曹征答应，便挂断了电话。然后他将手机扔进了垃圾桶，将曹征的资料全部销毁。顾明哲扔掉的电话被刘康生捡到了。第二天早上，刘康生叫住何君，问起她贴在曹征手机上的笑脸。经过他的提醒，何君想起曹征教自己开车的场景，那时候她真的很笨，曹征怎么教都学不会，还引起了同事们的嘲笑。后来，她学会了开车，便买了个杯子送给曹征。放杯子时，看到他桌上的手机，便顺手贴上了黄色的笑脸。何君不知道刘康生提起往事的原因是什么，刘康生知道她在调查曹征，便告诉她顾明哲同时也在查，他觉得两人并不相识一定有问题，还责怪何君，作为组长，竟然对手下的行动毫不知情。顾明哲经过垃圾桶，想起了昨天扔的手机，坐在办公室里，想起昨天曹征讲的话，他决定调查宋芳芳的案子，同时他发现，原本的红衣小男孩案，现在变成了红衣女孩案。他怀疑是昨天的那通电话改变了这一切。
