大雨下个不停，石海生送秀秀回家，二人踏上一艘小船向河对岸划去，一路上石海生向秀秀打探家事，大至了解了一下秀秀的家庭情况。秀秀回到家中挨了婆婆一顿责怪，虽然被婆婆责怪，逆来顺受的秀秀并没有生气，而是态度恭敬劝说婆婆不要生气。刘家齐在上海工作的时候被高启文调查，高启文查到了刘家齐在老家的情况，刘家齐为了隐藏身份不得不能雇凶除掉高启文，高启文被石海开枪打伤并没有死亡，杀手老大见刘家齐久久不肯上门支付酬金，只得带着二个手下趁夜来到上海找到了刘家齐。双方相遇之时是在一条胡同口中，刘家齐以高启文未死为由拒绝向杀手老大支付酬金，杀手老大见刘家齐赖账，杀心顿起命令二个手下上前袭击刘家齐。刘家齐见二个打手走了过来赶紧横起自行车挡在面前，眼看双方就要动手，不远处忽然有人高呼警察来了，杀手老大以为警察真的要来，只得心不甘情不愿带着二个手下离去，三人一走阿昆从后方走了过来，刘家齐感谢完了阿昆，猛然意识到了阿昆偷听到了之前的谈话内容。竟然阿昆已经听到了谈话内容再隐瞒已经不顶用，刘家齐将阿昆带回住处，坦诚是因为被高启文发现在老家也有妻子，所以才雇凶除掉高启文，将所有真相说出来，刘家齐希望阿昆能帮助他隐瞒所有真相，阿昆并不打算帮助刘家齐，直到刘家齐许诺日后当上高家副总一定会厚待阿昆，阿昆才笑逐颜开决定帮助刘家齐。高母一直对刘家齐存有芥蒂，眼见女儿高晓彤痴迷于刘家齐，高母思前想后将刘家齐唤到身边，提醒刘家齐不要再与高晓彤恋爱，刘家齐离去之后高晓彤来到母亲身边，数落母亲对刘家齐无礼，高母见女儿高晓彤不明就里爱着刘家齐，无可奈何拿女儿没有办法。刘家齐趁着出差机会回到了老家，在老家居住的几天中，秀秀意外怀上了身孕，刘家齐本来打算休掉秀秀，忽如其来的喜讯让他不知所措。秀秀与刘母并不知道刘家齐已在上海有新欢，二人对即将出生的孩子充满了期待，传统迷信的刘母还带着秀秀和刘家齐到寺庙中拜佛许愿，希望佛主能显灵让秀秀生下一个大胖小子。相比欢天喜地的母亲，刘家齐一副心事重重的模样，本来回家之前他已经做好了休掉秀秀的打算，如今秀秀已经怀上了身孕，在这个节骨眼上开口休妻显然不合适，左思右想，刘家齐只得抛下休妻的想法返回上海。
