Hercules und Iolaus wollen ihre alte Freundin Nemesis besuchen. Doch als sie dort ankommen, werden sie Zeuge, wie einige Soldaten, die dem Befehl des Kriegsgottes Ares unterstehen, Nemesis bedrohen und ihr Haus auf den Kopf stellen. Die beiden Freunde vertreiben die Soldaten und erfahren von Nemesis, dass Ares seinen Sohn Evander sucht, der spurlos verschwunden ist. Hercules kommt rasch dahinter, dass Göttervater Zeus Evander entführt hat, angeblich um ihm auf dem Olymp einen besseren Umgang mit seiner göttlichen Gabe beizubringen. Genau wie Ares besitzt Evander nämlich die Fähigkeit, alles, was er sich vorstellt, real werden zu lassen. Kurze Zeit später, als Hercules und Iolaus auf Zeus und Evander treffen, werden sie Zeuge von Evanders Macht: Er erschafft mit der Kraft seiner Gedanken ein furchterregendes Monster – und lässt es gleich darauf wieder verschwinden. Zeus gibt Hercules gegenüber an, dass er Evander einen maßvollen Gebrauch dieser Gabe beibringen will, aber der Halbgott glaubt seinem Vater nicht. Er schlägt ihm vor, Evander unter seine Fittiche zu nehmen. Zeus stimmt dem Angebot vor. Doch am nächsten Morgen ist Evander verschwunden. Von Ares erfahren Hercules und Iolaus, was Zeus wirklich von Evander wollte: Er will dessen Gabe benutzen, um die in den Kerkern des Tartarus schmachtende Göttermutter Hera zu befreien, die er immer noch liebt. Hercules ahnt, dass die Befreiung von Hera auch die Freisetzung der Titanen, riesige bösartige Kreaturen, bedeuten würde, die mit Hera im Tartarus eingeschlossen wurden. Hercules und Iolaus machen sich auf, um die Freilassung von Hera zu verhindern, doch sie kommen zu spät: Evander hat Hera befreit. Hercules will den Kampf gegen seine Erzfeindin aufnehmen, doch diese scheint ihn gar nicht zu erkennen. Offensichtlich hat sie im Kerker des Tartarus ihr Gedächtnis verloren. Diese erfreuliche Nachricht wird jedoch durch ein anderes Geschehen verdunkelt: Wie von Hercules befürchtet, wurden durch Evanders Tat die beiden Titanen Helios und Oceanus freigesetzt, die mit Hilfe von Ares ihren Bruder Atlas, der in einem Eisblock eingefroren wurde, befreien wollen und gemeinsam den Olymp, den Sitz der griechischen Götter, zerstören wollen. Damit wäre auch für die Welt das Ende gekommen. Doch noch hat Hercules nicht aufgegeben.
