Shirahama Kenichi ist eigentlich ein typischer 15 jähriger Schüler, mit der Ausnahme, dass er sich schon in der Grundschule nicht zu wehren wusste und auch keine echten Freunde hat. Deshalb wird er seit jeher nur gehänselt und herum geschubst, was ihm auch den Spitznamen »Weak Legs« einbrachte. Aber er lässt sich nicht unterkriegen, er liest viele Selbsthilfebücher und tritt dem Schulkarateclub bei, doch auch hier dient er nur als Schlagsack und Putzknecht für die anderen Mitglieder.
Sein Leben ändert sich jedoch schlagartig, als er auf dem Nachhauseweg beobachtet, wie seine Klassenkameradin Miu Fūrinji, die erst vor kurzem in seine Schule bzw. Klasse gewechselt ist, sich mit ein paar Straßenraudies anlegt, die zuvor einen alten Mann belästigt haben. Doch nun wird Miu aktiv. Mit wenigen, aber äußerst wirkungsvollen Tritten und Schlägen, kann sie alle Angreifer niederstrecken.
Wie der etwas irritierte Kenichi nun erfährt, ist Mius Großvater ein Kampfkunstmeister. Zurzeit lebt sie mit ihm in einem Dojo zusammen mit fünf weiteren Mitgliedern, jeder ein Meister auf einem anderen Gebiet der Kampfkunst, darunter Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Thaiboxen und chinesisches Kempō. Miu schlägt Kenichi vor bei ihr im Dojo zu trainieren. Mit seiner Stärke nimmt auch sein Bekanntheitsgrad zu und er gewinnt zum ersten Mal in seinem Leben Freunde, doch eine Schlägertruppe namens „Ragnarok“ wird nun auf ihn aufmerksam.
