蕊红担心千松患病，叫父亲来探望；在山试探下察觉千松善忘及记忆错乱，可能患上痴呆症，教他服用补气宁神药，减轻病情恶化。 蕊红替千松执药，看到映霞从客栈走出来，原来她是为找知秋而来，但知秋已退房而不知所终。小满来到笑婆的石屋，果然见到知秋躲在柴房；小满送来几个番薯更劝他回去，但知秋无动于衷，小满无奈回去。小满精神恍惚，更在剪菜时受伤，司马丑以变戏法安慰她。 知秋醒觉迷途知返 千松在翻木衣柜时，看见官服不禁若有所思；守成和常绿回到司狱厅，看见千松穿上官服在案头办公，更大骂守成办事不力。蕊红发觉千松失踪，担心不已，这时守成和常绿陪着千松回来，蕊红更担心千松有朝一日会失去自理能力。小满来到笑婆家给知秋送食物，知秋先前已被笑婆责骂一顿，见小满说他恰似只缩头乌龟，于是反骂小满，更赶她离开；知秋将小满带来的食物打翻，却看到有一只被石头绑着的乌龟走出来。知秋返回嫣红阁探望映霞，小满看见姊弟二人有讲有笑，感到安慰。 知秋映霞非亲姐弟 知秋向映霞认错，决定认真工作赚钱为她赎身，更感谢映霞十多年前相救，更到嫣红阁自愿卖身以照顾知秋之事。知秋带了乌龟向小满赔罪，二人雨过天晴，司马丑取笑知秋懂得偷心术。蕊红出诊回来时碰到常绿在小摊档饮酒，更主动跟他一起饮酒。 二人聊起知秋的事，常绿认为人经历起伏才会成长。小樱向蕊红投诉千松不停吃饭，令她要整天不停煮饭，蕊红担心千松的病愈来愈严重，只有尽量做好本份。常绿经过厨房，看到蕊红的困境，更欣赏她仍能够乐天知命。 蕊红崩溃护家不力 知秋在酒楼打工，荣少走进酒楼，并与另一茶客斗蟋蟀。老板要知秋招呼荣少，知秋倒茶时被荣少的跟班故意碰撞，令荣少走失蟋蟀，荣少大怒要老板辞退知秋。千松来到蕊红房中找官服，他看到台上放着书琛的小说，二话不说把它撕破，似忘记儿子已离世，更大骂儿子不思进取只顾写小说。蕊红赶忙执拾碎片，并躲在厨房用米浆拼凑整合；夜冷，蕊红放置小炭炉在旁取暖，却不小心打翻，炭火更把部分碎片烧毁。 常绿见到火种，于是用脚踏熄，蕊红却怒斥他及千松毁烂她的书。这时的蕊红情绪崩溃，埋怨自己不能照顾千松，亦无力照顾家庭，就连一本书也不能好好保住。
