蕊红再次看到常绿在前院磨刀，但她已明白常绿磨刀的用意，故此对他已多了一份尊重。知秋在厨房做烧饼让小满试食，并觉得用腐乳做的烧饼味道特别，因此拿去摆档摊果然吸引不少村民购买。映霞也前来购买作为鼓励，还准备求神庇佑知秋；荣少手下却来捣乱，更对知秋拳打脚踢并打烂他的摊档，映霞跑回来护弟他们才停手。映霞劝知秋不要跟荣少对着干，知秋不忿，指不会逆来顺受。常绿出手知秋佩服晚上，知秋饮至醉倒地上；映霞将玉枕还给他，指要与他脱离姐弟关系，以后各走各路，知秋看着映霞背影茫然失措。蕊红来为映霞涂药酒，见她脸上闷闷不乐，明白她仍挂念知秋。天下大雨令映霞旧患发作，知秋回来替她涂药，并决定要留在嫣红阁保护映霞。荣少来嫣红阁硬要映霞相陪，在旁的知秋怒不可遏却被守成劝阻。常绿却指自己是她的客人，又拉她相陪，以助映霞脱身。守成提醒荣少，指常绿是新来的刽子手，刚从刑场来洗霉气。荣少被常绿阴沉的面容吓怕。映霞感谢常绿相救，知秋佩服常绿不卖荣少的账。皇后故意抱走皇子守成与素心到白府，告诉常绿剑锋家乡已没有亲人，同时亦无弟弟剑星消息，常绿决定到良乡县查探；知秋追来，向常绿拜师学做刽子手但被拒绝。蕊红随贞儿往东宫为皇长子把脉，嬷嬷告诉皇后指皇长子不适，已把他接往坤宁宫照顾。贞儿急往坤宁宫了解，闻得皇儿大哭心痛不已。皇后责怪贞儿前来令到坤宁宫变得嘈杂，故意命侍婢抱皇子吹风散闷气，却让皇子哭得更厉害。皇后接手抱过皇子，适逢缘安大师来为皇子诵经祈福，皇后要贞儿抄一百篇心经作为祈福之用，贞儿不敢不从。常绿对泰伯起疑心常绿到良乡县凌家祖坟拜祭，发觉四周似有人打扫过；突然远处有人影走动，常绿立即上前查看，却一无所获。常绿和知秋回到街上，却遇见泰伯拿着药包，他指因婴儿生病被迫滞留良乡县。泰伯听到常绿答应帮死囚圆心愿，到凌家祖坟上香时，手中竟出现微抖，常绿于是对他稍加留神。婴儿突然发高热，泰伯帮婴儿洗澡降温时，竟能徒手拿着火烫的瓦煲，令常绿再次起疑。常绿跟泰伯谈起凌家事，并取出族谱，让泰伯看见剑星的名字已复现族谱上，指剑锋仍对他念念不忘。泰伯以无面目为由拒绝见剑锋；常绿见泰伯如此坚决，于是欲带走婴儿，泰伯不许，更拔出匕首要对付常绿。
