皇上看了弹劾川芎的奏摺后，一直躲避南天。南天把川芎及长胜等押到皇宫，要皇上尽速审讯。皇上不信二人会作奸犯科，怕他们被奸人所害，南天则催促皇上要尽快秉公处理。他亦表示长胜与川芎是他一手栽培出来的，他责无旁贷，佯装自杀谢罪，逼皇上处置长胜和川芎。 南天及百年以巫洵死前的留书指控川芎是金人细作，又指川芎与长胜、大力及杨卯收买巫洵诬陷南天，并指阿舞因为知道他们的秘密，才会被川芎灭口。皇上指各人犯的是死罪，但若肯认罪可从轻发落，川芎坚持誓不认罪，长胜却求皇上饶他一命。皇上答允免却各人死罪，但须罢免职衔，财产充公，亦不准川芎再进宫。 百年明白皇上有心放过长胜等人，担心放虎归山，南天却认为他们已不成气候。原来当日阿舞偷到一封可揭发南天细作身分的密函，欲与抚蛮将军商量对策，百年得知后却提议向南天投诚，阿舞拒做卖国贼…… 劝说勿再　无谓牺牲 大力与杨卯陪川芎偷偷进入天玑府，欲取回自己的私人物品，阿财、阿广、阿进发现赶他们走，百年出言侮辱与挑衅，川芎等只好离开。阿财等三人赶川芎至门外后，把川芎珍而重之的物品交给他。 长胜到花艳楼欲为桃花报仇，被迎接媚娘进宫的南天打退。南天自言已为长胜安排了一切，长胜本可与桃花回梧州双宿双栖，他却要多管闲事，才令桃花掉了性命。百年到聚龙帮欲以纠党集结之罪拘捕各人，长胜表示不会借聚龙帮搞事，且指百年已派人全天候监视他们，请百年放过熊峰。 川芎誓要揭发南天，长胜劝川芎勿作无谓的牺牲，自责当初没与桃花一起上马车，桃花才会无辜惨死，并指熊峰应为十九设想，免白头人送黑头人才后悔。大力与杨卯几经波折才能走在一起，一旦出事会阴阳相隔，长胜劝大力好好守护杨卯。川芎明白人各有志，不强人所难，但他仍会锲而不舍的劝谏皇上。 人各有志　分道扬镳 大力重操故业，杨卯要他发誓不再作奸犯科。杨卯因桃花的死，感人生无常，决定到衙门请师爷写娉书，与大力成亲。南天成为宰相后只手遮天，他安排媚娘进宫服侍皇上，令皇上纵情声色，荒废政事，南天又擢升百年为天玑监，铲除异己，不时有贤臣无辜被杀。 杨卯与大力以买卖旧物为生，川芎因坚持要揭发南天的阴谋，结果被打至遍体鳞伤。长胜找到一处有桃花的地方安葬桃花，且常陪在桃花墓旁，自暴自弃。… ...
