NHK的第82部晨间剧。1932年出生于小康之家的布美枝（松下奈绪饰），从小就是个文静内女的女孩。布美枝最大的烦恼就是自己“高人一头”的身材。在那个保守的年代，眼见姐妹们粉丝找到归宿，她却因为身高而迟迟没有好姻缘上门。直到她29岁那年，终于在父亲安排下接受相亲。对方是开自东京、在战争中失云左手的漫画家阿茂（向井理饰）。相亲当天，父亲再三交待布美枝要全程跪坐，不要站起来，不料布美枝还是破了戒。原以为亲事就此告吹，没想到对方却要求在五天后完婚。面对一个年纪大了十岁，又因战争失云手臂的对象，布美枝仍决定嫁鸡随鸡，跟随阿茂离开故乡，远赴东京。东京的繁华令人目不暇接，但夫妻俩的生活却捉襟见肘，家徒四壁。虽然婚后才开始了解彼此，但布美枝始终相信、支持阿茂。贫困的环境不曾夺走他们的幸福与笑容。两人的感情也因此变得更加深厚紧密。从赤贫时代到《鬼太郎》漫画走工，布美枝与阿茂跨越了重重考验，携手写下一段笑中带泪的感人故事。
