Dhakee revolves around a rural drummer, who makes a living by playing at pujas and other ritual ceremonies. His wife helps make ends meet by making mattresses. But when his daughter falls sick, he finds that he cannot pay for her treatment, and goes to the city to play at the Durga Puja in order to earn enough money.
