中東・ウルクの遺跡調査施設、ヘブンズゲイトの大爆発、いわゆるXX（ツインエックス）から十数年が過ぎた。史上最悪の災厄とも言うべきＸＸ。その後の世界。空は閉鎖された鏡『シェルタリングスカイ』に覆われ、発生した地磁気の異常から、コンピュータを始めとする電子機器は制御不能に陥り、人類は文明の後退した時代での生活を余儀なくされる。 XXの主犯とされているエンキドゥ＝円輝道博士の子供たち～竜也と紀世子は、世間の冷たい目にさらされ、また、母の残した莫大な負債を肩代わりして、その借金取りから逃げる生活を送っていた。ある雨の日、二人は街外れの洋館で３人の青年たちと出会う。不思議な佇まいを持つ彼ら。「この世に蔓延る悪魔と戦うために、僕たちの仲間にならないか…」しばしの雨宿りの中、彼らはそう言い残し、洋館を出る。そして同時に、彼らと謎の少年達の戦闘が、轟音と共に始まった…。戦闘の中保護された竜也と紀世子は、謎の少年達の手によってとある女性の元に連れて行かれた。女性は、ヴェルデンベルグ伯爵夫人。少年達は『オルガ』と名乗る超能力者の集団で、世界を破滅に導くエンキドゥの手先、ギルガメッシュと戦っていると言う。洋館に居た青年たちこそ、そのギルガメッシュ。そして共に戦おうと二人に語りかける。伯爵夫人は、借金を肩代わりすることで、二人をオルガの一員として迎え入れた。ホテル・プロヴィデンスを拠点にオルガの少年たち、イサムらと生活を共にする２人。彼らと接しているうちに、竜也は潜在する超能力～『デュナミス』の力を徐々に覚醒しはじめる。普通の人間として、普通の幸せを求める紀世子は、変わり行く弟の姿と、それをとりまく伯爵夫人やオルガ達に嫌悪を抱く。そして————。ＸＸ勃発の真の原因。そしてヘブンズゲイト。エンキドゥとギルガメッシュ。オルガと伯爵夫人。その真意・・・。様々な謎を孕み、世界の命運をかけた戦いが、今、繰り広げられていく————。
