Fort Hood, Texas am 5. November 2009: In der bevölkerungsreichsten US-Militärbasis der Welt befinden sich zahlreiche Soldaten zur medizinischen Abschlussuntersuchung vor ihrem nächsten Kriegseinsatz in Übersee. Während sie in der Schlange stehen, steht plötzlich ein uniformierter Mann auf, zieht eine Pistole und beginnt wild um sich zu schießen. Er tötet 13 Menschen und verletzt 32. Das Massaker wird nur deshalb gestoppt, weil ein anwesender Zivilpolizist den Schützen anschießt. Der Terrorist wird anschließend als Armeepsychiater Major Nidal Malik Hasan identifiziert. Ermittler beschuldigen ihn des mehrfachen vorsätzlichen Mordes und suchen nach Motiven für die Mordserie. Hasan ist der Sohn palästinensischer Einwanderer. Er trat der US-Armee bei und ließ sich zum Arzt ausbilden. Nach den Angriffen vom 11. September wird er von seinen Kollegen schikaniert und zum Einzelgänger. Er wird zum Heerespsychologen ernannt, gilt aber als Einzelgänger und spricht sich gegen die Kriege im Irak und in Afghanistan aus. Im Jahr 2009 wird seine Welt auf den Kopf gestellt, als ihm befohlen wird, dass er sich in ein Kriegsgebiet begeben muss. Nach seiner Versetzung nach Fort Hood kauft er sich eine Pistole und verbietet jedem, seine Wohnung zu betreten. Am Tag vor seinem Massenmord verschenkt er viele Haushaltsgegenstände an seine Nachbarn und fordert sie auf, den Koran zu lesen. Dann fährt er nach Fort Hood und entfesselt dort sein blutiges Massaker. Im Gerichtsverfahren gegen Hasan offenbart sich, dass er mit einem radikalen muslimischem Iman engen religiösen Kontakt hatte und dass dieser einen Terroranschlag auf US- amerikanischem Boden offen befürwortet hatte. Das US- Militärgericht verurteilt Hasan zum Tode.
